Picnic

Saturday September 17, Noon to 5 pm, Englewood MetroPark's Patty Picnic Shelter

Visit the Englewood MetroPark home page: http://www.metroparks.org/Parks/Englewood/Home.aspx

The Patty Picnic Shelter has plumbed restrooms, grills, drinking water, volleyball, and horseshoes. The park also offers hiking, biking, bird-watching, and disc golf.

Schedule

  • Noon:  Arrive, break out soft drinks and snacks, and start grills.

  • 1 pm:  Eat chicken breasts, hamburgers, veggie burgers, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad, fruit, vegetables, and desserts.

  • 2 pm:  Play volleyball, toss horseshoes, hike or bike on the twelve miles of trails, play disc golf, or just sit around and catch up.

  • 4:45 pm:  Clean up and pack up.

Bring

Folding chairs, Frisbee discs, family members, and leashed dogs. Alcohol isn't allowed.

Directions

Drive .8 mile north of I-70 exit 29 on South Main Street (State Route 48). Turn right (east) onto National Road (U.S. 40) and drive .9 mile across Englewood Dam. Just opposite Aullwood Road, turn left (north) to enter the park on Patty Road.

Parking

Please carpool. From the park entrance, drive .9 mile to a parking area on the left. (The Patty Picnic Shelter is about 500 feet to the east from there.) If you miss this parking area or it's full, you may drive another .1 mile around a right bend to a second parking area. (The Patty Picnic Shelter is about 250 feet to the south from there.) Because the road is one-way in places, you may not be able to easily double back to the first parking area. But there are other overflow parking areas in the neighborhood. See a park map:

Cost

A few generous classmates have become esteemed picnic sponsors by contributing $25 at the green level or $50 (or more) at the gold level. Sponsors will receive our acknowledgement and big thanks in email broadcasts, on the Picnic Sponsors page of our website, and on a poster at the picnic.

Even after the reunion, helpful checks payable to "Colonel White 1971 Reunion" may be sent to Donna Harris at 2419 Edenhill Avenue, Kettering, OH 45420.

So the picnic is free!  But you'll still have an opportunity to toss some money in a hat at the picnic if you want.

Reservations:  To help the reunion committee plan, please make a free, non-binding reservation through our communications hub. Click on the Reservations button, above.
